The #RoomofTheWeek this week is this boys stars and stripes room. It was a bedroom, but it only had a desk and a dresser. We had to work with the furniture the family left behind when they moved to California. We knew that since we had a bedroom that we were designating as a girl’s room that we needed a boy’s room, too. We started with the blue and red comforter set and designed the room around it. The colors just seemed patriotic, so we added the stars to compliment the color scheme. This room “sprang to life” once it was staged. The energy changed and the room immediately had a theme, a flow, and became a space I think that any boy (or girl, really) could envision themselves living in.
How do I transform a room? What is my creative process? Here’s a behind the scenes look at the steps I take to turn a home, room by room, into a house to sell.
To start, stand in doorway and ask ‘what am I seeing?’
Pick staging or focal point and decide the purpose of the room.
Make a plan for what needs to come in or stay out.
Accessories are divided into two piles: One to keep and the other to give up.
Then ask, ‘what furniture needs to be removed? What furniture stays?’
When the furniture is in the room, it’s arranged in a way that would answer my first question.
After I walk through these steps, I make any final adjustments and fine tune the details of the room.
As a home stager, I am striving to build a strong foundation underneath my growing dream job and make my clients happy. This quote was shared with me and I not only apply it to how I want to treat people on the job but how I want to live my life daily. Today, I wanted to share it with you.
“If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives: Be kind anyway.
If you are successful you will win some false friends and true enemies: Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank people will try to cheat you: Be honest anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight: Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous of you: Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten by tomorrow: Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough: Give your best anyway.”

This quick statement from Barb Schwarz explains what happens the moment you decide to market your house and the roll a homestager plays in the process:
You have already decided to sell your home, so now your home has become a house. Once your house has been staged, it now becomes a product that is competing with other products. By staging your house, you are packaging it so that it attracts potential buyers to choose your house and not the competition.
The Ballerina Room has been a highlight for me in my staging career. Previously, the room had been a bedroom that the man of the house had made into a gym. The room was far too small to house all of the big gym equipment. The couple didn’t have children and, when I looked at the exercise space, I saw the perfect place to give this home a child friendly touch. After having everything removed from the room, I had a blank canvas to dream about and work with. This is how the princess ballerina room evolved – the room I have dreamed of creating since even before I became a professional home stager. Having only sons, I never had the chance to design a sweet, girly and VERY pink little girl’s bedroom until now. I added the pink cowboy boots for a little spunk! I absolutely fell in love with this room the minute I finished staging it. Hope you enjoy!
